It’s October and I’m absolutely loving everyone’s Halloween themed posts! I thought I’d try to do something a little bit different and address the fact that mental health illnesses can be ‘dressed up’ every single day and to sufferers, it is absolutely terrifying.
Whether somebody is high functioning or not, you cannot look at them and know what’s going on in their head or if they have an illness or not. Yes, there can be signs when someone is suffering from a mental health illness but most of the time, these type of illnesses are invisible. You can easily put a smile on your and hide what’s going on inside.
I asked my Twitter followers if they would be interested in helping me out and showing me what a mental health illness looks like. The answer to that is, you can’t. People suffer everyday and you can’t see it by looking at them. There is no way you could tell by looking at these beautiful people that they suffer from one or several mental health illnesses. They all suffer from different illnesses.
Anxiety, depression, borderline personality disorder, bulimia, PTSD, agoraphobia, obsessive compulsive disorder, body dismorphia, bipolar disoder, PTSD, Mixed Anxiety and Depressive Disorder. You cannot see it just by looking at someone.
That’s where the Halloween theme comes in. Living with a mental health illness is absolutely terrifying. Especially if you cannot control your emotions or find it difficult to use coping mechanisms. These illnesses are not physical but mental and you could say that every day when we are physically dressed as ourselves, our mental state is dressed up by our physical appearance as you cannot see what’s going on in somebody’s mind.
So yeah, I thought it would be great to do a different kind of post for Halloween and continue to raise awareness for mental health. Please always bare in mind that there’s a lot more going on than what you can see on the outside.
